6 Hardest Achievements To Unlock In Persona 3 Portable

Persona 3 Portable is definitely worth playing for those who enjoyed its successors. However, it’s known to be the hardest out of the most recent Persona games. This entry’s main theme revolves around death, after all, so it makes sense that it wouldn’t shy away from trying to kill you at every turn.

After the game has arrived on PlayStation and Xbox consoles, there are actual achievements you can get to show off your hard work and expertise. But that means you’ll have to play smart if you want to unlock all the achievements you can on your first playthrough, because the game won’t just hand them to you.

6 A Cut Above

To get this achievement, you have to fight Elizabeth or Theodore, whomever you chose to be your attendant. Unlike Persona 4 Golden and Persona 5 Royal’s attendant bosses, this fight has certain conditions, and it will insta-kill you if you don’t meet them. Firstly, you have to fight them solo. Bringing any party members along will get you hit with a Megidolaon that does 9,999 damage.

Secondly, using Personas that null, reflect, or absorb elements will also make the attendant do 9,999 Megidolaon damage. So you have to fight alone, with only Personas that resist elements at best. Besides that, the boss does two heavy moves per turn, so you may die quickly if you can’t tank two hits in a row. To top it off, they heal themselves once their HP gets below a certain point. Needless to say, this isn’t a simple fight to beat.

5 Social Butterfly

For this achievement, you have to max out every Social Link. Social Links are important for giving your Personas extra boosts and minimizing the grind. They’re also super important for characters’ stories and personal development. The best parts of a character are often found in their Social Link. But Persona 3 Portable gives you the least time to max out all your Social Links in the series.

You have to have your social stats at certain ranks to initiate or continue some Social Links, and then you have to give all the best answers while having a Persona with a matching arcana to your Social Link in your stock. Even with all that, if you’re not meticulously following a guide for this, you could easily miss out on completing some Social Links by one or two ranks.

4 One Who Has Proven Their Power

As if fighting your own attendant wasn’t hard enough, you even get to fight Persona 4 Golden’s to unlock this achievement. Margaret is a little easier to fight in the sense that she doesn’t have starting conditions. You’ll be able to bring party members and use whatever Personas you want. But even with that, she’s terribly tough to beat.

She has phases she cycles through, and if you don’t do enough damage to her before she reaches the next phase, she’ll hit you with — you guessed it — 9,999 Megidolaon damage. She’ll exclusively use Physical attacks in the first phase, and if you manage to survive those and hit her hard enough, she’ll start inflicting Status Ailments. Those can be the reason you lose if you’re not ready to cure or prevent them. Her weaknesses also change with every phase, so you have to keep an eye on what she does at all times.

3 Thorough Bookkeeper

Unlocking this achievement requires you to get the Persona compendium to 100 percent by obtaining every possible Persona in the game. While the variety of Personas is a neat aspect of the game, there are a bunch that you probably wouldn’t want to use, depending on your playstyle. But this achievement forces you to fuse them anyway, and you only have so many slots for Personas.

Knowing which combinations make what Personas is tricky without a guide, especially if you want the cheapest options. Plus, some fusions require four, five, and even six Personas at a time. It’s also a huge money sink, as you’ll have to constantly resummon Personas from the Compendium just to fuse them into new ones.

2 The Reaper Becomes The Reaped

For this achievement, you have to defeat The Reaper, a menacing optional boss found in every Persona game starting from the third entry. He spawns and comes for you when you stay on a floor in Tartarus for too long, so you can encounter him at any time, even extremely early on. But you only really have a chance to beat him when you’re well above level 50.

He resists every element except Light and Dark, which he nullifies. He also has access to every element, as well as physical attacks, Megido skills, and insta-kill spells. Having Personas that block Light and Dark is imperative if you don’t want to risk dying instantly, as well as Homunculi to block insta-kills for your party members. But he can still hit hard, especially since he can get rid of anyone’s elemental resistances for three turns. It’s a challenge just to survive, let alone beat him.

One of the major selling points of Persona 3 Portable is that it lets you choose between a male and female protagonist. It’s not just the gender that changes; things like the music and some Social Links change between the two. This may or may not be good enough incentive to go through the game twice. But if you want to platinum it, you’ll have to.

To get the achievement, you have to beat the game once with each protagonist. That’s harder than it sounds because of how long Persona 3 Portable is. Even if you speedrun it, that’s still a lot of time to dedicate. Plus, the battles weren’t made for speedrunning. Being too careless in the name of finishing them quickly can end with you unexpectedly dying, even to low-level enemies that have insta-kill spells.
