Funny The Witcher 3 Clip Shows Roach Attacking Ronvid

Roach has always been Geralt’s silent companion, but this Witcher 3 clip of her attacking Ronvid reminds fans to always watch out for the quiet ones.

The Witcher 3 has its fair share of silly characters, none more deserving of Roach attacking them than Ronvid of the Small Marsh. The horse named Roach is fitting because it’s known to bug out. In The Witcher 3, the would-be knight Ronvid has taken up chivalry in order to prove his honor to the Maid of Bilberry, the woman he declares to be the most beautiful in the world. So, of course, he decides to repeatedly challenge one of the toughest sword fighters in the world– Geralt of Rivia. What the Don Quixote wannabe didn’t expect was that his real challenge would come from Roach.

Ronvid challenges Geralt three times throughout The Witcher 3, each time upping the ante a bit, finding more armor and a real sword to fight with each successive fight. It doesn’t help him much, though as the knight never puts up much of a challenge. On the first encounter he leaves after Geralt scolds him, only to return later after leveling up a bit with a bit more confidence before getting defeated again. In the final encounter, players have the choice to let him live or kill him for wasting their time. Obviously, CD Projekt Red made him annoying on purpose, like Oblivion‘s adoring fan.

While many players perhaps opt to take out Ronvid by giving him the fight he so desperately begged for, on some occasions Roach herself gets frustrated with the annoying Ronvid. In a video posted to Reddit by MTBDadGamer_ Geralt of Rivia begrudgingly agrees to another fight with Ronvid with a, “let’s get this over with” before the camera turns and Roach decides someone rang the bell on her fight. The fight is over before it began, as Ronvid only has time to hear a neigh before having two hooves rammed against the back of his head and getting sent back several meters.

The Witcher 3‘s Maid of Bilberry might not be so disappointed that Ronvid never returns to her, assuming Ronvid is dead after the equine assault blasted him across the beautifully lit scenery of The Witcher 3. He clearly thought she was worth facing a witcher, which means he was prepared to die anyway. It would be charming if only Ronvid was less awkward and audacious. The main reason for the vitriol his character receives is that he believes he’s a match for Geralt, i.e. the player, and that automatically makes him come off as a pompous fool throwing his life away for a girl who probably doesn’t even know him.

Don Quixote’s horse is named Rocinante, by the way, and there’s even a reference to the book in the Blood and Wine expansion. Clearly, CD Projekt Red likes tales of chivalry.

The Witcher 3 is available to play on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
