Help Kratos turn trash into treasure with this guide to finding purified crystalline in God of War: Ragnarok.

Table Of Contents

God of War: Ragnarök really raises the bar on customization when compared to its predecessor, 2018’s God of War. From the addition of a new weapon for Kratos to upgrade, to entire skill trees for two companions, there is a huge number of individual items to consider. As a result, the in-game materials needed to perform these upgrades has expanded as well. Most of these items are relatively easy to find, but there are a few late-game upgrade materials that may leave players slightly confused about how to locate them.

GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

One of the best examples of this is purified crystalline. It’s a requirement for upgrading several items in God of War: Ragnarök to their highest levels, yet the game does very little to inform players of where it can be acquired.

How to Find Purified Crystalline in God of War: Ragnarök

Acquiring purified crystalline in God of War: Ragnarok is, on its own, not a particularly difficult task. However, Kratos must first complete several steps before he can access the required area.

The process simply requires Kratos to throw raw crystalline shards and fragments into the Wishing Well. The small pool of water will return several boons to Kratos, purified crystalline included.

What are Crystalline Shards and Crystalline Fragments in God of War: Ragnarok?

Crystalline shards and fragments are a special unrefined resource only found in a very specific region of Vanaheim. They are located inside large orange crystal-shaped growths and can be extracted using the special explosive function of Kratos’ Draupnir Spear.

Where to Find Crystalline Shards and Fragments

These orange growths can be found in the new area of Vanaheim that becomes available after rescuing Freyr from the Einherjar. Initiating the “Scent of Survival” quest will lead to this new section, which begins with the Crater region. The crystal growths are found throughout the entire area.

Make sure to look everywhere when searching for shards and fragments, some of the growths are placed in odd locations.

There are three sizes of crystal growth, essentially small, medium, and large. Only the large growths contain fragments, which usually result in higher tier rewards from the wishing well.

How to Use the Wishing Well in God of War: Ragnarök

Despite being located fairly close to the area Kratos first visits in the Crater, the wishing well requires several steps to reach. However, if players simply explore the region while looking for crystal growths, they will eventually arrive at it.

To use the Wishing Well, Kratos must clear the crystal growths from around its outer edge. Once completed, Kratos’ companion will suggest he try throwing one of the shards in the water. A prompt will appear when Kratos is in the right spot.

Rewards from the Wishing Well

Aside from purified crystalline, which the Wishing Well gives abundantly, there are several other rewards that make collecting crystalline shards and fragments worthwhile. They are:

  • Armor of Fallen Stars (Chest, Waist, Wrist)
  • Runic Hailstone Knob (Axe)
  • Celestial Panacea (Amulet)
  • Gleaming + Shining Crystal
  • Large amounts of Petrified Bone, Asgardian Ingot, Luminous Alloy
  • Large amounts of Hacksilver

God of War: Ragnarök is available now on PS5 and PS4.
